On the morning of May 1st, after enriching my mind and body through Roberto Granatti’ Sensei’s Gyokushin-ryu and Roberto Fagnani Sensei’s Qigong classes, I was given the opportunity to lead a lecture of my own.

The theme of my lecture was: "What is True Budo?"
I began by exploring the deep meaning of the word "Budo" and the distinction between "Budo" and "Bujutsu" through the etymology of their kanji characters. Together with the participating masters and young students, we took the time to reflect on what "Do" (the Path) truly signifies and the role of education within Budo.
During the practical session, I explained the "Principle of Kuzushi" (balancing) from the perspective of biomechanics. Using Sumi-otoshi as an example, I demonstrated how the technique is executed through the use of gravity and the body’s center of balance, allowing participants to experience and deeply understand the mechanics firsthand.
Furthermore, I spoke about how we can apply the philosophy learned from these techniques to promote social prosperity. As an example, I discussed the modern issue of poor dietary habits in society and shared how the teachings of Budo can be utilized to improve such social challenges.
My goal was to help everyone reconnect with the principle so highly valued by Jigoro Kano and Minoru Mochizuki: "Apply the principles of victory and defeat to all aspects of life" (applying the truths gained through Budo to benefit society as a whole).
While mastering martial techniques is fundamental and essential, we often tend to focus solely on the physical skills and forget the underlying philosophy of Budo. It was a profound session where all participants joined me in digging deep into the true essence of Budo.
