Australia Perth Dojo Tour – West Coast Aikido Martial Arts Academy

The fifth stop on our Perth Dojo Tour was West Coast Aikido Martial Arts Academy. This was my second visit to this dojo, and once again, it was a truly wonderful experience.

Ross Sensei’s instruction faithfully carries on both the form and spirit of Minoru Mochizuki Sensei’s techniques. It was not just the precision of the techniques that impressed me, but also the careful attention given to teaching the underlying philosophy and mindset of budo. I was deeply moved by his approach.

What left a particularly strong impression was the system they’ve created, in which the entire family is involved in the dojo and children are educated through the practice of martial arts. Even in Japan, it’s rare to see budo so deeply rooted in the local community and functioning as an integral part of education. We were genuinely impressed and full of respect.

The children who participated in the seminar all trained with focused, sincere expressions, and I could clearly feel their strong desire to learn budo. Watching them made me realize once again that the future of budo is not limited to Japan—it is being nurtured powerfully overseas.

In addition, the dojo was filled with a spirit of collaboration and shared learning, creating a truly welcoming atmosphere. With Ross Sensei at the center, everyone trained together as one. Being able to experience such a dojo culture was one of the most meaningful parts of this journey.
