The third stop on our Perth Dojo Tour was Self Defense Central Dojo. As Head Instructor Andre Sensei was away, Vice Instructor Jeremy Sensei kindly led the training session.

At this dojo, we were introduced to a range of jujutsu techniques, including Hozan-ryu Kobujutsu, a classical Japanese martial art. In particular, we received detailed instruction on various responses to different types of attacks, which was incredibly interesting to observe and experience.
In the final part of the training, Jeremy Sensei stood at the back of the dojo, and students practiced in pairs by reacting to his movements without knowing which attack was coming. As the partner attacked, the students had to apply a technique reflexively based on what they saw from Sensei’s demonstration. This method allowed them to cultivate a sense of natural, instinctive response without taking time to think—an extremely practical and memorable form of training.
Through repeated practice like this, I felt that students naturally develop the ability to respond instantly to a wide range of attacks. I am deeply grateful to all the instructors and students who welcomed us warmly and taught us patiently.
