The sixth stop on our Perth Dojo Tour was a black belt-level training session at Gyokunenkan. This session brought together instructors and black belts from different styles and dojos—a truly high-level and rare opportunity for shared learning. On this occasion, instructors from five different dojos gathered to train together, exchanging insights and studying each technique with care and depth. It was an inspiring sight.

What particularly impressed us was the sincere and thoughtful approach to analyzing and practicing even the most basic techniques. This attitude—of always being a student, no matter how advanced—is something we in Japan must learn from. For us, it was also our first time experiencing Yoshinkan Aikido, and we found its structure and movement both stimulating and refreshingly new.
To see instructors learning from one another across style boundaries, growing together in such a collaborative environment, gave us great hope for the future of budo. Experiences like this will undoubtedly become a valuable asset for the next generation of martial artists.
We are deeply grateful for this precious and inspiring experience.
And finally, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Steve Sensei, who kindly came to pick us up early in the morning and supported us throughout the day.
